Cleveland – Lincoln Electric equipment will be featured in an episode of a new reality television show, DIY Dominator, scheduled to premier on the DIY Network on Friday, July 30 at 10 p.m. ET. The series, which pits skilled contestants against one another in a sequence of creative construction challenges, will include a welding-focused episode in its first season. Each episode is hosted by DIY expert Chris Grundy and follows three trade-skilled contestants as they compete for the DIY Dominator title and $10,000 grand prize.
The welding episode will air on Friday, August 6 at 10 p.m. ET. The challenge featuring Lincoln Electric is a welding and metalworking competition that charges each contestant with designing and building a 12-foot latched gate. In addition to welding equipment and consumables, Lincoln Electric also provided helmets and other welding accessories. The episode features the contestants, all trained and practiced welders, using a Lincoln POWER MIG® 180, Square Wave™ TIG 175 and Miniflex™ weld fume control system to fabricate their gates. The equipment served as prizes for the show, and each competitor walked away with a new piece of Lincoln welding equipment.
Lincoln Electric Technical Sales Representative Myron Delgado worked with the show’s producers to develop the welding episode and decide which Lincoln equipment models contestants would use. The show was so impressed with Delgado’s knowledge and expertise in the welding field that he was asked to join the judging panel. Delgado helped choose the winner of the welding competition based on design, construction quality, structural integrity and difficulty, and a surprise twist kept contestants on their toes.
What viewers may not see when the episode airs is how Lincoln Electric was additionally involved behind the scenes. When electrical problems threatened to interrupt the show’s taping, trucks arrived on set to provide emergency power equipped with Lincoln Electric Vantage® 400 generators. The generators allowed the contestants to continue running equipment to complete their projects, and the competition proceeded on schedule.
“The welding episode of DIY Dominator showed our equipment at work, and the program will highlight Lincoln Electric as a premier source of welding equipment and materials,” Delgado said. “Getting involved in the series was a great opportunity for us, and we think a lot of people will really enjoy the welding episode.”
